The third quote down simply means that civilization is never standing still, it is always changing and evolving into something greater. The 4th down is saying that the fact that the white man thinks he is doin the native "savage" a favor (im uming this is a colonial quote) by changing their culture is really just as savage as the people they r claiming to help...hope that makes sense and helps
