When the company you work for doesn't give you any work to do and is slow....?

and with the several layoffs, do you think it is ok to ask to be laid off? I would like to stay home and watch my granddaughter and collect. I cannot afford to quit. It is so boring ..they want me to scan (files)8 hrs a day. Since they laid off my husband, it hasn't been the same for me here. I need your opinion pls.?
