I got a job in LA for a year and would like to take my friend for a week? Can you see enough of LA in a week?

I've been offered the job and start work on 20th July this year and it's her birthday on the 12 July, was thinking of leaving on 10th July to celebrate joint birthday and farewell party with friends for us a week before. is that sufficient? or shall we leave two weeks before I start my work?
